Many avoid the doctor as long as possible. We understand that your pain and frustrations along with meeting a new doctor and staff can be scary and uncomfortable. With our friendly staff, we will strive to make your appointment as pleasant as possible as we all try to get you better. We are willing to do all we can to get you back on “your feet.”

Ultrasound imaging uses sound waves to help a physician see inside of a person’s body without invasive surgery or radiation. This is incredibly helpful in the diagnosis and treatment process. Ultrasound is also a useful way to examine inflammation in and around joints. Many types of arthritis – like osteoarthrtitis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, and pseudo gout – are very clear to see when looking at a joint with an ultrasound machine. Sometimes, the diseases can’t be seen with normal examination.
In addition to the examination, ultrasound can help the doctor to remove (aspirate) fluid when a joint is inflamed. It is much easier to see exactly where the needle needs to go when using ultrasound. The applications for ultrasound are increasing, and Arthritis Specialty Center has been using this technology to safely and accurately diagnose problems with other structures such as tendons, bursa, and ligaments for over 5 years.
BONE DENSITY SCREENING
Bone mineral density (BMD) tests use a special machine to measure your bone density to see if you are at risk for osteoporosis. The test uses x-rays to measure the amount of calcium and other bone minerals that are contained in a given section of bone. Using this test, you can identify bones that are fragile, and possibly susceptible to breaking.
The test can be used on hips, the spine, forearms, wrists, fingers, or the heel. It is safe and painless, and a powerful tool in treatment of rheumatic disease.
Immunotherapy (also called infusion therapy) is when a patient receives medication through an intravenous drip. It is one of the more popular services that doctors offer, because a patient can sit in a comfortable chair and relax while the treatment occurs. Our immunotherapy centers were designed with patient comfort in mind, and our staff at Arthritis Specialty Center has been providing this service to Southeast Idaho for 10 years.
Comprehensive rheumatology labs in our CLIA certified Laboratory are offered in-house to diagnose and comprehensively treat a wide spectrum of rheumatic diseases.

Pocatello Orthopaedics was formed in 1995 by Dr. Richard A. Wathne after he completed an orthopaedic surgery sports medicine fellowship. The following year he was joined by Dr. Benjamin Blair, who had just completed an orthopaedic spine surgery fellowship. This allowed us to provide expert comprehensive care in general, trauma, sports medicine, neck and back orthopaedic surgery. With Dr. Wathne focusing on shoulder and knee surgery to include arthroscopic reconstructions, rotator cuff repair, ACL, and total joint replacements. In 2005, Pocatello Orthopaedics welcomed Jeffrey Bray, DPM. The addition of Dr. Bray to our practice allowed us to offer podiatric care to the community. Dr. Bray provides both conservative and surgical treatment for the foot and ankle. Dr. Anthony Joseph joined Pocatello Orthopaedics in 2011, focusing on sports medicine, and bringing an extensive background in primary care sports medicine, with special emphasis on concussion treatment, and helping the athlete return safely to play. He has 17 years of experience at Idaho State University performing conservative management of college athletes. In July of 2013 we welcomed Brent M. Faure, MS; ATC, a Certified and Licensed Athletic Trainer. Faure has been assisting Idaho athletes with the care, prevention and rehabilitation of their sports-related injuries since 1981, and has been key in forming a comprehensive sports medicine program for the Pocatello/Chubbuck School District.
Beginning in September and running through November, Pocatello Orthopaedics will hold a Saturday “bumps and bruises clinic,” for any high school athlete, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. This clinic provides athletes with free evaluation of any sports injury. In addition, our physician assistants are available at the clinic for a free evaluation of any sports injury throughout the year. Speak to our office staff for more details.
It is our goal to provide our patients with the highest level of caring and compassionate orthopaedic care. We invite you to peruse our website to learn more about what we have to offer.
