We are an all volunteer, non-profit organization, formed more than 40 years ago, that provides a community center for the visual arts. We provide exhibition space for local artists, art classes for people of all ages and abilities, and workshops in various media often conducted by nationally known artists. Our organization includes the Portneuf Valley Photographic Society the Porcelain Artists of Southeast Idaho and the Pocatello Idaho Watercolor Society.
Pocatello Art Center operates with an all volunteer, elected Board of Directors, meeting monthly, whose members are artists, patrons and business people from the community. We own our building in “Old Town” Pocatello and keep it maintained using proceeds from membership dues, donations and apartment rentals. Our dedicated volunteers give of their time and talent to provide artists with the opportunity to display and sell their art. It also gives the community a chance to purchase affordable original artwork.
Our monthly Newsletter and Calendar keeps our members informed of activities, classes, and special events. We also send out a yearly member directory. Membership provides access to our sizable library of books, DVDs and VCR tapes available for check-out. All artist-members are invited to hang their original artwork in the gallery. The displays are changed frequently throughout the year and there are special art shows; life drawing sessions with live models; organized outdoor painting sessions and other activities.
In May we hold our Annual Judged Show. (We do not call it a “juried” show because all entries are accepted. They do not have to be juried in.) All Art Center members are encouraged to enter works of art in this show.
We organize the Sagebrush Arts Fest, held on the second weekend in September. There are discounts on booth fees with membership.
We hold an annual Holiday Show and Sale during the months of November & December, which provides a place to showcase your work and to see the work of your fellow artists. This is a good opportunity for art lovers to view and purchase wonderful holiday gifts.
Parking is available behind the Art Center in the large railroad parking lot.
Functioning as a working board, members collaborate to identify, plan, and administrate public arts projects for community enhancement. Members oversee and manage available City allocated funding as well as seek additional arts funding from other sources to assist in the realization of projects.
The council consists of nine to eleven members who serve three-year terms.
Shayne has a wide array of subject matter including wildlife, landscapes and portraits. However, he has primarily focused on railroad art, both oil and pencil. His close attention to detail and realistic style inspire you to experience the scenes depicted in his art. As an artist of train travel his work brings to mind memories of a simpler time and days gone by. Originals and prints of his work are available. Each print is individually inspected and signed by Shayne.
