Of his recent desert landscapes inspired by the challenging geologic forms, vibrant colors, and ever-changing moods of the Idaho/Utah area, Pirro had this to say; “This is where the earth speaks most clearly to me… the power of wind, water, and earth, create monuments that are a tribute to the amazing beauty and grandness of nature… this truly humbles me. I realize that I can’t hope to duplicate nature, I can only strive to use paint in a pleasing or personal way”.

Shayne Stoakes is a railroader at heart. He was born and raised in Pocatello, Idaho where his love for trains and nature began. He has worked for Union Pacific Railroad as a fireman/Oiler since 1991. He enjoys model railroading as well as a variety of outdoor activities. Although he has had no formal education in the field of art, his many interests, family, occupation and scenic location provide wonderful inspiration and resources for his art.

Shayne has a wide array of subject matter including wildlife, landscapes and portraits. However, he has primarily focused on railroad art, both oil and pencil. His close attention to detail and realistic style inspire you to experience the scenes depicted in his art. As an artist of train travel his work brings to mind memories of a simpler time and days gone by. Originals and prints of his work are available. Each print is individually inspected and signed by Shayne.

I’ve always in awe of birds and beast, I paint as an act of adoration. From the powerful dignity of the grizzly to the delicate strength of a chickadee, my intention is to render the spirit and mystery contained within fur and feather.

Living in Southern Idaho for most of my life has given me an appreciation for the high desert landscape. The drama that unfolds here is fascinating. I look at the natural inhabitants and see all kinds of metaphors and symbols that become part of my visual vocabulary. I am often moved by the strength of a small bird that survives in this harsh and changing weather, or the way light may bounce between the clouds and alluvial fans at the base of the mountains. As I face the different challenges and questions life brings forth, I produce my artwork as a form of questioning and speculation.
